Today is the Day "Animal Mother" Southern Lord

TODAY IS THE DAY
"Animal Mother"
Southern Lord Records
Released: October 14, 2014
2xLP, CD, Digital

"Animal Mother" is the tenth full length LP from Today is the Day.

It is the scariest Today is the Day album I can recall. After you listen to this a few times on your regular devices, I advise listening to this with a pair of good headphones, really f&c#ing loud, with the lights off, past midnight, with no else around. Check out this trailer of the album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPB88ASy-Qs

I was first introduced to Today is the Day via AmRep records when Today is the Day was leading the way through the AmRep noise (Unsane, Janitor Joe, Chokebore, Cows, Guzzard, Hammerhead - you can still hear nuances of all those bands influencing this new record too).

If early Sonic Youth channeled Mastodon, the result might be pretty close to "Animal Mother". Brutal, haunting, evil, metal, noise with Neurosis damage, recorded in the woods in Maine during the middle of winter. The vocals are ridiculously villainous. The recording is as mentioned, headphone worthy. So much going on you really could study this record as much as just marvel in the heavy evilness. Even the acoustic based songs have a haunting, "Natural Born Killers" feel.

To release this as their tenth album is remarkable.

Today is the Day plays Allentown PA, Saturday October 18, 2014. I think that will be the third time I've seen Today is the Day, first in probably more than a decade. Should be a blast!
