Damn Dirty Apes "Ape Diablo"

The Damn Dirty Apes
"Ape Diablo"
Monkey Monkey Records
Released: November 6, 2014

The Lehigh Valley PA's Damn Dirty Apes deliver eleven punk infused, Anthrax-like, metal tracks on "Ape Diablo". Jody, Andy, Stacy and Phil are like a pro, well-oiled machine... a vulgar and blunt, pro, well-oiled machine. Their style is aggressive, confrontational and driven. Gems like "I Don't Wanna B U", "On Wings of Broken Winds" and "Broken Hearts & Bloody Messes" are up front and in your face.

I wasn't sure what was going on in their video for "Sick!" but that didn't keep me from watching a few times to try to figure it out. The Damn Dirty Apes appear to arrive in luxury and set up to play at a soup kitchen and then scantily clad dancers attempt to draw the diners attention away from their food. Check  out the possibly NSFW (at least not my work) video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTdLa7mrdwY

For all the Damn Dirty Apes straight forward attacks, they are always good to  throw in some challenging aspects. The track "Territorial Fistings" is their crowning "challenging" achievement on "Ape Diablo". Aggressive and distinctive, with varying structures that pull together atypical metal and alternative influences. Apes never disappoint.

"Beat on the Brat" (Ramones) appropriately wraps things up, circling the wagon back to where it all begins.

Stone Sour "The Dark" from Fear Clinic Soundtrack

Stone Sour
"The Dark"
"Fear Clinic" soundtrack
Released: February 10, 2015

The following is the video for Stone Sour's song "The Dark", which is featured on the soundtrack to "Fear Clinic".

Lehigh Valley legend Roy Mayorga drums for Stone Sour. Roy used to play drums for Lehigh Valley PA Hardcore band Youthquake. Hear Youthquake LVA 012 and 039 here: http://frankfoe.blogspot.com/p/lehigh-valley-archives.html

Watch the video for Stone Sour's "The Dark" here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXexq0hRyY0

Stone Sour's vocalist Corey Taylor appears in the movie along with Robert Englund, Fiona Dourif, Thomas Dekker and Brandon Beemer.

After the original post, Roy pointed me in the direction of the song without the movie clip bits. Check out "The Dark" song here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Txtj9otG6XU&feature=youtu.be

I'm so proud of Roy!

Made Violent "EP"

Made Violent
Startime International / Columbia
Released: February 24, 2015

Made Violent is a three piece band from Buffalo NY that brings to mind the Strokes rather than the Goo Goo Dolls.

Upbeat, at times nearly bubblegum in their interpretation of garage rock, Made Violent strike the same ground the Strokes did before them. The pop sensibilities and strong songwriting are expertly measured against the raw, unpretentious rock.

Made Violent interpret barroom nights and early morning malt liquor experiences as they attempt to find whatever twenty-somethings are looking for and they do so with strong musical chops, creativity and a driving energy that also brings to mind the Hives, if they sported flannel rather than suits.

The five tracks ("On My Own", "Two Tone Hair", "Dirty", "Inside Out", "Wasted Days") hit on all cylinders and inspired me to search out the demos on their bandcamp page (they've been working on this for awhile).
Check out their videos for "Wasted Days" and "Two Toned Hair".

Wasted days, too scared to tell you
I was withering away, withering away
Spent my younger days like I was king,
but I still ain't got no diamond ring

My mom and dad you know they called it sin,
but I sure as hell didn't let no devil in
You know I talk too fast but you can't look back
so I never did, no I never did

Talking to myself but no one's ever listening
No I don't wanna change
No I won't do anything

Same old day, but no new dance
Just the taste of fire and a place to be is all we need yeah
To get me through all the things that I've done so wrong
so horribly wrong

My mom and dad you know they called it sin,
but I sure as hell didn't let no devil in
You know I talk too fast and you can't look back
So I never did, no I never did

Talking to myself but no one's ever listening
No I don't wanna change
No I won't do anything

Looking forward to plenty more from Buffalo's Made Violent!
